Our Big Idea

The why behind what we do.

Real food, good people.*

*That’s our address to you, the good people endeavoring to support local farms and economies.

( Of course, we also aspire and endeavor to be and work with good people, but let’s not get off topic. )

*It’s also shorthand for our big idea:

Thoughtfully Cultivating Relationships to Nurture the Local Food Cycle

( a direct path to warm fuzzies by way of local food )

Our mission of authentic local foods and sustainability is bigger than simply distances and practices.

Those things definitely matter, but there’s more to the story, because it all comes down to local economies, and relationships between farmers and consumers; and the trust, accountability, and great quality, feel-good food it brings about.

We’re part of a cycle. All of us.

It goes something like this:

People need to eat—no arguments there, we hope. Many even want to know where their food came from and wish to support local farms and economies—you are our people!

Then, assuming the chemistry works—Voilà—A relationship is born! That means trust, accountability. Give and take.

So some courageous souls in the community start to produce food to feed them, generally with some high-minded ideals as a guide. Beautiful, noble stuff—yay for principles!

Food and funds change hands and go their merry ways. Be it real food, toward bellies like yours and ours or funds, toward local economies. What a concept!

We find these brave, noble farm folks, and can genuinely get to know them, and what they do, which is possible, precisely because they’re real, local people!

It all sort of checks and balances. There are quality and freshness expectations in light of nutrition and palate demands. Also discussions of practices and even farm visits. Conversations shared, connections made, relationships cultivated.

Didn’t we say warm fuzzies?

Anyway, with any luck more good (hungry) people climb aboard, so more farm folks begin to produce more food, and the beautiful “Real food, good people.” cycle repeats.

We’re somewhere in all that.

Like you, we appreciate a good meal and appreciate feeling good about the food we eat.

We’re also farmers producing food we feel good about. More about our products >

AND we’re sourcing other stuff from folks whose practices and products we feel good about.

Then we’re passing it along to good people who care about real food, local farm families, and their communities.

And we’d love it if you’re among them. So jump on the bandwagon, if ya like.

Hey there, local food lovers!*

We love the farmers and chefs who make what we do possible, and are always looking for new and interesting products and partnerships.

So if you’re into growing, serving or even just eating tasty foods, and have a question or comment, you’ve come to the right spot!
